I’m Alive

I can hardly believe it, but I am alive. After such a delightful school year I finally have some time for R&R. I’m keeping to my work and doing some things on my list. I’ve even gotten Rosetta Stone to help me with my Japanese (it’s great for learning pronunciation). It feels so good, in fact, that I’ve even cleaned my mom’s house from bottom to top. It’s lovely.

I ended up getting A’s in all of my classes except Biophysics; surprise, surprise. However, I somehow (in all of my lack of motivation) managed to get a B+… I don’t know how to be honest, but I can’t say I’m unhappy about it since I expected a C-ish. Damn that four hour final though, what a pain in the ass. How is any normal person supposed to be focused for four hours at 6-10pm? All I want to do around that time is mess around. I’m done though.

On another note, my laptop kinda died on me last night – overheated or something similar. It was my fault entirely since I was running three scanners (virus, maleware and ad/spyware) and then tried to play a game after having it on my lap all morning. Stupid. It came back to life however after letting it rest for an hour, thankfully. I won’t let that happen again.

Another thing to note, I went to a seminar for the MN Zoo. So much for it being a ‘decent’ zoo. They keep some of their tigers in concrete cages for days and feed their bears something akin to, I dunno… Science Diet for Dogs. What the hell? Not only is dog food a ridiculous diet for three Russian grizzly bears, but it’s a shitty food as well. You’re feeding them processed corn with chemically created nutrients! Ick. I wouldn’t feed it to a dog much less a 500 lb-ish bear. And I have to mention those concrete cages again. They were small, had no ‘enrichment’ toys and no bedding. They could at least put some hay in there. They were all dark too, how depressing.

Just goes to show you that things aren’t always as they appear. The zoo looks like it takes wonderful care of their animals. I cringe when I think about how the shitty zoos take care of theirs. This Cat Rescue has the idea when it comes to care. That’s what I would like to do when I retire.

On yet another note, I’ve been watching the anime Soul Eater. It’s moderately funny, and the fandom hasn’t gotten horrendously annoying (yet). I like the character Death the Kid. He has an OCD disorder and cannot stand when things aren’t symmetrical; he’s hilarious. It’s one of my favorite character weaknesses to date since it’s used pretty well in the anime. I also like the first kishin Asura; I always seem to like the baddies. I haven’t read the manga yet since Skhizein said it was irritatingly perverted, but I may have a look since the anime toned it down as it progressed.

Well, enough for now. I somehow managed to quell a bitchfest,

Kris

Ready to Fall

Warning: The unedited, graphic version of the Rise Against video “Ready to Fall.”

I suggest you watch it and pass it around; give kids nightmares for all I care. Maybe they’ll learn some respect and empathy, something that most people do not have for animals.

Rise Against – Ready to Fall

A video on animal rights. This needs to be seen. Think of all the genocide, abuse, and torture that people go through every day. Well, it pales in comparison to the pain that billions of animals, seen as insignificant to the ‘superior’ human race, are subjected to. Torn limb from limb, harvested in filthy plants, skinned alive, and treated like garbage, literally. When will we be satisfied with the conveniences that we have, thanks to the suffering of other creatures?

The music video is a good preview of all the videos you can find on the web, documenting the disgusting side of humanity.

It hurts to think that everything we do, thanks to the way society has been molded, kills so many in ways such as this. I feel a darkness deep within my soul, so deep. I feel helpless.

And people wonder why I don’t get along with others,

Kris

P.S.: Some more quotes that helped warm my soul after witnessing for the millionth time, human’s filthy nature:

We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form.  ~William Ralph Inge, Outspoken Essays, 1922

The question is not, “Can they reason?” nor, “Can they talk?” but rather, “Can they suffer?”  ~Jeremy Bentham

I care not much for a man’s religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.  ~Abraham Lincoln

Why should man expect his prayer for mercy to be heard by What is above him when he shows no mercy to what is under him?  ~Pierre Troubetzkoy

Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight.  ~Albert Schweitzer

Cockfighting was illegal in Oklahoma until 1963, when a judge ruled that chickens are not animals and therefore unprotected by anticruelty laws.  ~U.S. News & World Report, 6 December 1999

I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls.  They always say because it’s such a beautiful animal.  There you go.  I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.  ~Ellen DeGeneres

When a man wantonly destroys one of the works of man we call him a vandal.  When he destroys one of the works of god we call him a sportsman.  ~Joseph Wood Krutch

The animals of the world exist for their own reasons.  They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men.  ~Alice Walker

As often as Herman had witnessed the slaughter of animals and fish, he always had the same thought:  in their behaviour toward creatures, all men were Nazis.  The smugness with which man could do with other species as he pleased exemplified the most extreme racist theories, the principle that might is right.  ~Isaac Bashevis Singer

When I was twelve, I went hunting with my father and we shot a bird.  He was laying there and something struck me.  Why do we call this fun to kill this creature [who] was as happy as I was when I woke up this morning.  ~Marv Levy

Heaven is by favor; if it were by merit your dog would go in and you would stay out.  Of all the creatures ever made [man] is the most detestable.  Of the entire brood, he is the only one… that possesses malice.  He is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.  ~Mark Twain

The basis of all animal rights should be the Golden Rule:  we should treat them as we would wish them to treat us, were any other species in our dominant position.  ~Christine Stevens
